Lisa Papineau

Lisa Papineau’s Night Moves made its worldwide debut in July 2006, on LunaticWorks (Sony/BMG). Her second solo venture, (Red) Trees, will be released in May 2009 on Enja/ Yellowbird. The project features vocals from singer/songwriters Matthieu Boogaerts and Mark Eitzel of American Music Club, cover artwork from Italian painter Andrea Mastrovito, and a very loud organ from St. Géraud’s church in Aurillac France, a town world-famous for their umbrellas.

In addition to her own material, Papineau has collaborated as both a writer and/or a vocalist on a variety of projects. This year she will appear as featured solo vocalist on the Tyler Bates score of the upcoming film The Watchmen. Notably, she has appeared on Air’s 10,000 Khertz, and Talkie Walkie, M83’s Before the Dawn Heals Us, Jun Miyake’s Stolen From Strangers, P.O.D’s The Fundamental Elements of Southtown, Scapegoat Wax’s Okeeblow, Scenario Rock’s Endless Season, Farflung’s Belief Module and NinePin Body, and the Bruce Haack tribute album Dimension Mix on which she performs the track “Walking Eagle.” A founding member and songwriter of the groups Pet (with Tyler Bates), and Big Sir (with Juan Alderete of The Mars Volta, featuring performances and remixes by fancypants such as Money Mark Ramos-Nishita, Cedric Bixler Zavala, Dan The Automator and Sugar from Buffalo Daughter), she continues as a member of Crooked Cowboy and the Freshwater Indians, and this year can be heard (in a song co-written with Jun Miyake) in the newest Pina Bausch dance piece Sweet Mambo.

Red Trees

Label: Yellow Bird
Release date: May 07, 2009

Following her album “Night Moves” which was released in 2005/2006 in France and in the US, Lisa Papineau presents her second solo adventure “(Red) Trees”, on release through the German Enja label Yellowbird. French singer/songwriter Mathieu Boogaerts and Mark Eitzel of the American Music Club are amongst the guest performers. Lisa has recorded the album with the French drummer Johan Guidou and with the guitarist/piano player Mattieu LeSenechal, who also perform with her as a trio. On her new album, Lisa experiments with intense vocal expression, keeping the arrangements to a minimum in order to let the coulour of the voice and the melodic themes shine. The singer and songwriter continues her collaboration with Juan Alderete (of the Mars Volta) for their duo Big Sir and also collaborates with composer Tyler Bates, most recently on the music for the mega movie The Watchmen. Her voice fascinates, amongst others, the French group Air and Japanese composer/producer Jun Miyake, for whom she has recorded and written the texts.
